January 2017 – Lake Hawkins

The Scoop:

C O L D C O L D C O L D C O L D - Lake HAWKINS!

How about 15 Degrees cold both days? Saturday started off at 15 degrees, hit 32 about 1:30 and ended up about 34 for the high. Sunday started off at 15 degrees as well and ended in the low-40's. Yup, that's cold.

But guess what.................Fish Still Eat!

It was "extreme" cold for us Texas boys, but hey.....it was a tournament, it was the first event of the year, and we were ready to fish. We had a great turnout of 24 anglers show (two left since boat never started). Couple boats were frozen to their trailer. Rod boxes were frozen shut, Little Buddy heaters were in a lot of boats, and cold weather clothing was abundant.

Mike Mays starts off with a win once again this year. His FIRST Place stringer weighed 16.86. Congratz Mike.

SECOND Place was brought in by our New 2017 Club - Tournament Director, Randy Parks with a very close 16.45lbs.

THIRD Place was nailed down by Preston Wood with a solid 14.68 pound bag.

FOURTH Place was wrapped up by Lance Eitel with 14.42.

Randy Parks takes FIRST Place Big Bass with a 5.06 er' and Preston Wood takes SECOND Big Bass with a nice little 4.90 chunk.

We had a great start to the year. Solid turnout on a very cold day and the weights were pretty healthy as well.......who needs a crowded power-plant lake? This is fishin'!.

Up next is Lake O' Pines in February.
